Why Jesus ? . . .

Who is Jesus (to me)?

When I started laying out this page, I naturally thought of the usual discussion items, arguments, and knowledge bits that give reason for the mind. But, there are lots of sites that do that, and do it very well. Some of these are listed on the side bar. No, what you won't find on those other pages, is who Jesus is to me. This would be what you'd hear in church called, a 'testimony.' That just basically means it's my personal story. And my story is not over, by any means. I haven't figured it all out. But, really there's not much to figure out as much as to live out. It's all about a relationship with the Creator of the Universe -- Father, Son, Holy Spirit. To me, it all just seemed to make sense. I considered myself an average guy (still do), and maybe even better than most. Before I met Christ, I figured you should live your life out being the best person you could be. A noble thought, but, then why? Jesus gives the answer as the great commandment: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind," [Matthew 22:37]. Well, that sealed it. What could make more sense than to live your life in the very way that your life was created to live. Each of us was created to have a love relationship with God. As far as being the best person you could be, if you continue on from that verse, Jesus spells it out. And, how do you live your life that's consistent with this great commandment? To live your life in the very way that your life was created to live is to follow Jesus. Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life" [John 14:6].

Of course, I know now what I didn't know previously that, no, I wasn't all that good of a person. It's true that comparing myself with anyone is really missing the mark altogether. The beauty of it is that Jesus takes us where we are, no matter what other people might think of me (or you); or, even what I might think of me. Jesus loves me as I am for who I am. But, as a good friend would do, He won't leave me where I am, in my sin -- one of those 'churchy' words that basically means I'm separated from God because He is holy and I'm not. But, Jesus died for my sins so that I can be reconciled to God. He laid down his life. "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends" [John 15:13]. My sins are forgiven, my spirit is quickened (brought back to life) and the Holy Spirit resides in me to teach me, guide me, even rebuke me so that I might live and receive God's best. Yes, I'm very thankful; and I think that deserves an "Amen!"
